Enterprise T5140 System Overview Introduced in April of 2008, the Sun Enterprise T5140 Server is part of Sun's line of Coolthreads® servers, along with the Sun Fire T1000, Sun Fire T2000, the Sun Enterprise T5120, the Sun Enterprise T5220, the Sun Enterprise T5240, and the Sun Enterprise T5440 servers. They're named Coolthreads® both because of their chip multithreading technology - CMT, and their low power consumption that allows them to run 'cooler' than comparable machines from other server manufacturers. At the time of its product announcement, the Sun Enterprise T5140 was billed as “the World's first dual-socket, general-purpose CMT server powered by the 3rd generation UltraSPARC T2 Plus processor.” Only configured with two CPUs, the Sun Enterprise T5140 server provides the flexibility and power of 128 virtual systems in a single server, and 5,120 compute threads per rack. Other features of the T5140 include: CPUs that are 4, 6, or 8 core 1.2 GHz, 8 core 1.4 GHz, or 8 core 1.6 GHz UltraSPARC T2 processors; up to 128 GB of memory using 8 GB DIMMs; up to 4 ea. 300 GB SAS disk drives or 32 GB 2.5-Inch SATA SSDs (solid state drives), integrated on-chip cryptographic acceleration and on-board 10-gigabit Ethernet for secure computing and high-speed networking.
