System Overview
Introduced in June of 2003, the Sun Fire V240 server is a dual-processor-capable, rack-optimized server designed for high availability. The Sun Fire V240 features up to two UltraSPARC IIIi processors, 8 GB of memory, and four disks. It also comes with four Gigabit Ethernet ports, three PCI slots, two redundant power supplies, a system configuration card, advanced remote management, and an optional SSL card, all in a 2U package that sets the standard for rack-ready servers.
A R0HS version of the Sun Fire V240 was introduced in January of 2006, and the V240 was EOL'd (end-of-lifed) in September of 2007. the Sun Fire V240 was replaced by the Sun Fire V245 server. Additionally, Sun produced a Telco (NEBS compliant) version of the Sun Fire V240 called the Netra 240.
Sun has an excellent free-to-the-public field engineer's handbook called Sunsolve. The handbook pages for the V240 can be viewed by clicking here.
