Sun | Sun Fire V440 Server

Introduced in March of 2003 as a high-performance, data center-class server, the Sun Fire V440 is a flexible platform for delivering low-cost, horizontally-scalable services and solutions.

Comparable in many ways to the Sun Fire V480, the CPU of the V440, however, has 1 Mb cache, compared with the 8 Mb cache of the Sun Fire V480 server.

With up to four 1.062-GHz, 1.28-GHz, or 1.593 GHz UltraSPARC IIIi processors, up to 32 GB of memory, up to four 36-GB, 73-GB, or 146-GB Ultra320 SCSI disks, six PCI slots, two Gigabit Ethernet ports, identity transfer feature, and remote server management capability, the rack-optimized 4U V440 server features an integrated architecture designed to meet a variety of different processing needs while reducing complexity and maximizing valuable data center floor space.

Sun also produced a Netra version of the V440 called the Netra 440.

The Sun Fire V440 server was introduced in a RoHS version in March of 2006, and was EOL'd (end-of-lifed) in September of 2007. The Sun Fire V445 was introduced in October of 2006 as the replacement for the Sun Fire V440 server.
