Sun | Ultra 40 / Ultra 40 M2 Workstation
Originally introduced February of 2006 as the Ultra 40 - and then upgraded to the Ultra 40 M2 in November of the same year - the Sun Ultra 40 was part of Sun’s second generation of x86/x64 based workstations, and was the direct replacement for the Sun Java Workstation W2100z. The Ultra 40 / Ultra 40 M2 was also Sun’s last dual processor workstation.
The Sun Ultra 40 featured Opteron 200 series single and dual core CPUs, while the Ultra 40 M2 featured AMD Opteron 2000 series dual core CPUs, and could be configured with up to 32GB RAM using 4GB DIMMs, and up to eight 3.5” 80GB, 160GB, 250 GB, 500GB, or 750GB SATA, or up to eight 3.5” 146GB or 300GB SAS disk drives.
The Ultra 40 RoHS workstation was EOL’d (end-of-lifed) in May of 2007 and the Sun Ultra 40 M2 was EOL'd in December of 2008.
