Sun | Ultra 27 Workstation

Introduced in March of 2009 as the replacement for the Ultra 24, the Sun Ultra 27 was Sun’s fourth generation of an x86/x64 based workstation, and was the second to use an Intel CPU – the Intel Xeon 3500 series Quad-Core processor. The CPU was offered in 4 speeds: the 2.66GHz W3520, the 2.93GHz W3540, the 3.20GHz W3570, and the 3.33GHz W3580. The Ultra 27 has 6 DIMM slots and can be configured with up to 12GB RAM using 2GB DIMMs.

It can support one to four 3.5” 300 GB, or 450 GB 15K SAS, or 250 GB, 750 GB, or 1 TB 7200 RPM SATA disk drives.

The Ultra 27 workstations was EOL’d (end-of-lifed) in June of 2010, and was the last single processor workstation to be offered by Sun Microsystems, which started business as a provider of workstations.
